Surfers do not have any more familiar brands than Billabong. It was the birth of the industry at all. The word Billabong is taken from the native Australian language, and in translation means the dead arm of the watercourse. In the 1980s, Billabong shorts were available across Australia, during the 1990s the brand expanded to New Zealand, Japan, or South Africa.
